    • Hi, i am not sure if my problem is actually a perceived or a real one. It might only be minor problem that doesnt even warrant a thread on aunt agony but i really like some kind souls to advise me on my predicament.

Ok heres my problem. How to mug in uni when you dont have tys qns to guide u? Based on my previous 12 yrs of pre-uni mugging experience, i have always thrived on practising past yr tys qns and mugging the hell out of it. But i have come to the realisation that uni's unique style of studying expects much more than juz plain regurgitation and practising of qns. It demands a lot on individual self-studying and extensive reading. And i am a person that doesnt read beyond the textbook. I am what you call a ''full-fledged mugger'', one who studies the textbook 100 times and does the tys 1000 times  b4 entering the exam hall.

So any kind souls here can help allay my fears or dispense some mugging tips on how to score well in uni before i begin my anxious journey in nus tml?

    • No. Thats the reason y i posted this thread. Any ideas on how to study and score well? Other than lecture notes and tutorials which are quite fundamental?

    • It's time to grow up.

Anyway, there's still TYS kinda papers, but modules change syllabus like you changed clothes so may not be useful in the end.

i think the best way .... is to try to learn for the sake of the knowledge itself .... not to learn to score well in the exams .... the results will take care of itself ...

that I think, would be the best way to do well in the uni .... you're already arrived at the "means to an end" .... the place where you have worked hard to get to .... it's time to learn something for the sake of itself, this is probably the only time in your educational career that you may actually enjoy learning something, so don't waste it ....

    • seems like you have achieved the "study hard", but not the "study smart"..
like what eyeball suggested, you can study in a group and learn together. wink.png

    • lend notes from seniors. I have realised the more stuff i lend from seniors, the better i score.

If you really have time, do the past year exam questions and show your professor and ask them for solutions. (since solutions arent provided anymore)

    • Halo...

      Which faculty you from??

Sometimes group studies also no use... What I did is that I did the read thru the notes many times and the tutorials as well... the textbook is a must...

If your exam is essay type, its best for you to add in some additional info into your answers... best is info not taught during lessons... however you also need response to the question and not go too far away from what the question is asking...

Anyway i am from science and this is how i study.. Notes, tutorial and Textbook only... and this has served me well for the past few sems..

Also you reply must make sense.. no point giving something that is not possible right??

As long as your lecturer see that you have your own thoughts.. and it make sense (can see the effort you put in by looking at your answers), you will score.

From what I know, some students study the notes, tutorial, several textbook, senior notes and journal articles.. which i think its too much info... no time no time..

You must also be smart la... to score well also depend on the question marks... few marks question no need write so much... many many marks questions... must write alot and best is full of excellent ideas... ok??

And also got people like to spot questions.... see which topics ya lecturer like to emphasize during lectures and tutorials..

And lastly, to do well in your exams... luck plays a part too... if your luck suay... then u suay...

      Gd Luck!

    • I've never liked using TYSeries. Personally, I prefer getting by on pure knowledge alone, but the sad fact is, that isn't gonna help save my lazy butt when I go up against hordes of students armed to the teeth with 100 years' worth of questions.

I think in uni you can kinda learn for the sake of learning and enjoy the process. Since everyone's gonna have the same problem, hell, why not? All the best!
